A Simple Skincare Routine for Men (That Actually Works)

Gentle reminder for the guys If you care about wrinkles, sun damage, or brown spots, daily SPF + antioxidants are not optional. Here’s the science part most men don’t hear enough: Men don’t handle oxidative stress as efficiently as women. That means more free-radical damage from UV, pollution, and daily exposure—aka faster visible aging. 🔹 SPF protects you from ongoing UV damage 🔹 Antioxidants neutralize free radicals that break down collagen and trigger pigmentation And yes… I know you’re listening because you’re already coming into my clinic for cosmetic treatments (but don’t worry, I won’t tell 🤫) If you’re doing lasers, injectables, or resurfacing—or even if you’re not but want to optimize how your skin ages—this is where it starts. Save this, follow for real skin advice, and if you’re already in my treatment chair … this is how you protect the investment.

Guys—this one’s for you.

More and more men are coming into dermatology clinics asking about things like:

  • Brown spots
  • Wrinkles
  • Sun damage

And honestly? It’s about time.

You don’t need a complicated routine or a shelf full of products. If you want to improve your skin (and prevent things from getting worse), there are two simple steps that make the biggest difference.

First: Understand What’s Happening to Your Skin

A lot of what you’re noticing—spots, lines, uneven tone—is caused by photo damage (aka sun damage).

Over time, UV exposure leads to:

  • Dark spots
  • Wrinkles
  • Loss of skin quality

And here’s something important:

👉 Men’s skin doesn’t handle environmental stress (like UV damage) as efficiently as women’s.

Which means prevention matters—a lot.

Step 1: Wear Sunscreen Every Day

If you do nothing else, do this.

Daily sunscreen helps:

  • Prevent new brown spots
  • Slow down wrinkles
  • Protect your skin from further damage

Keep it simple:

  • Use a clear (non-tinted) sunscreen if that feels more comfortable
  • Keep it somewhere you’ll see it (next to your toothbrush or razor works well)
  • Make it part of your morning routine

Consistency is what matters—not perfection.

Step 2: Add an Antioxidant (Like Vitamin C)

The second piece most men are missing? Antioxidants.

Think of these as your skin’s defense system against environmental damage.

A vitamin C serum can help:

  • Fight oxidative stress from UV and pollution
  • Brighten skin tone
  • Support healthier-looking skin over time

👉 If you’re only going to use one “extra” product—make it this.

Why These Two Work So Well Together

Sunscreen and antioxidants are a powerful combination.

  • Sunscreen protects against incoming UV damage
  • Antioxidants help neutralize damage that still gets through

Together, they help:

  • Prevent more spots
  • Reduce visible aging
  • Improve overall skin quality

Keep It Realistic

You don’t need a 10-step routine.

Start with:

  1. Sunscreen (daily)
  2. Vitamin C serum (morning)

That alone can make a noticeable difference over time.

Final Thought

If you’ve been thinking about your skin—but haven’t done anything about it yet—this is your starting point.

No overthinking. No complicated routines.

Just two steps that actually work.

This message is for the guys out there. Okay. If you're a lady, you can just scroll on past, because here I am talking to the men. I have been really shocked as a board certified dermatologist with how many men have been coming into my clinic with concerns that are cosmetic, like brown spots, wrinkles. You don't like the, the sun damage that they have. Listen, I already sent the ladies outta here because I know you don't want them to know that you're coming in to see me to talk about these things. If you're a guy at home and you're like, yeah, I'm not liking my brown spots either, or, I'm not liking my wrinkles. Let's talk about where you need to start. Men respond to photo damage differently than women. Okay? So yes, you need to wash your face, but you really need to be putting on sunscreen. Every day. You don't need to use a tinted one. You can use a clear one, find one you like, find one that you can put next to your toothbrush or your razor or whatever your morning routine is, and make sure you're getting that on your face every day. The other thing is men don't deal with oxidative stress, so stress from uv, radiation from the environment, the same way as women, they're actually not as efficient at it. So really using an antioxidant is super important. That's something like a vitamin C serum, like if you're not gonna do anything else. Sunscreen in an antioxidant, okay? They work together to help prevent more brown spots, more wrinkles, more damage from the sun. And I know you care because you're already coming to see me. I, I, I see you in my clinic. So give yourself the best results that you can get. Do as much as you can at home. Start with your antioxidant, a vitamin C serum. Make sure you're wearing your sunscreen every day. Share this with a friend who wants to know what to do, but hasn't quite pulled the trigger coming in yet. I'm waiting.
