Protect Your Hands From the Sun—Even While Driving
By Dr. Schneider, Board-Certified Dermatologist

I recently got a great question about sunscreen gloves, and I realized more people need to know about this easy way to protect your skin—especially when you're behind the wheel.

Let’s talk about how to care for one of the most overexposed and often forgotten areas of your body: your hands.

Why Sunscreen Gloves?

We all know the importance of sunscreen on our face and body—but your hands get a lot of sun exposure, especially when you're driving. Over time, this can lead to:

  • Sunspots and discoloration

  • Premature aging

  • Increased risk of skin cancer

That’s where sunscreen gloves come in. They’re a simple, reusable solution for UV protection on the go.

What I Use: UPF 50 Full-Fingered Gloves

Personally, I keep my sunscreen gloves right in my car’s center console, so they’re easy to grab anytime I’m driving.

My go-to gloves:

  • Full-fingered style by KoolaBar

  • UPF 50 sun protection

  • Touchscreen-friendly (so I can still use my phone or GPS)

  • Lightweight and breathable

I wear them while:

  • 🚗 Driving

  • 🥾 Hiking

  • 🏊 Swimming

  • 🎿 Skiing (yes, even in the winter sun!)

They’re a game-changer for keeping your hands protected without the mess of reapplying sunscreen every hour.

Pro Tip: Keep a Pair in Your Car

Sun damage is cumulative—and even a few minutes of daily sun exposure on your hands while driving can add up over the years.

That’s why I always keep a pair in my car. If I’m going to be in the sun—even briefly—I put them on. It's become a simple habit that helps me protect my skin long-term.

The Bottom Line

Sunscreen gloves are one of those why didn’t I do this sooner? kind of products. They’re affordable, easy to use, and they help preserve the health and appearance of your hands—no matter the season.

Send this to a friend who always forgets their hands when applying sunscreen, and let’s normalize hand protection as part of everyday sun safety. And don't forget to stop in to Pacific Crest Dermatology to get your own pair today!

I got a great question from you, and it was about sunscreen gloves, so I thought I would show everybody what I do when I'm in my car and I'm driving, so I'm just getting into my car. I keep my sunscreen gloves right here in my center console. Let's put them on.

These are full fingered sunscreen gloves. They're by Kula Bar. They have a UPF of 50. Um, and they have the little finger pad and thumb so that I can still use my phone and use my touchscreen in my car if I need to. Um, I like the full fingered gloves when I'm driving. Uh, it gives me really great sun protection.

Um, I wear gloves like this if I am hiking, if I am swimming, if I am skiing and it's warm, I always have a pair in my car. Send this to a friend who needs to remember to care for their hands.
