How to Get the Most Out of Your Skincare & In-Office Treatments

cosmetics skincare tiktok Feb 17, 2026
@samanthaschneidermd If you're investing in skincare or in-office treatments, here’s how to make sure you're not throwing money away 💸🧴: 1️⃣ SPF, always. Sun damage undoes the progress—protect your glow! ☀️ 2️⃣ Skincare at home matters. Think of it like brushing after the dentist—gotta keep it up between visits. 🪥🧼 3️⃣ You have to use it. Consistency is everything. Your products won’t work if they’re just collecting dust. In office treatments and at home skincare = a team. It takes two to tango 💃💖 #SkincareTips #SkinInvestment #SPFAlways #ConsistencyIsKey #GlowUpWithScience #SkincareThatWorks ♬ original sound - Samantha Schneider, MD

Investing in your skin—whether through professional treatments or medical-grade products—is exciting. But the results you see in our office are only part of the picture. What you do at home is just as important.

Here are our top tips to make sure the money you’re spending on your skin is actually working for you.

1. SPF Is Non-Negotiable

If you’re investing in treatments like lasers, chemical peels, microneedling, or even prescription skincare, sunscreen is the number one way to protect that investment.

Without daily SPF:

  • Redness and rosacea can flare

  • Brown spots can return

  • Collagen breaks down faster

  • Treatment results fade sooner

Simply put—if you’re doing in-office treatments but skipping sunscreen, you’re wasting your money. SPF is the foundation everything else is built on.

2. Think of Skincare Like Dental Care

We like to use this analogy:
Going to the dermatologist is a lot like going to the dentist.

You see your dentist twice a year for cleanings—but you don’t stop brushing your teeth in between and expect to avoid cavities, right?

In-office skin treatments work the same way.

  • Neurotoxin (like Botox®)

  • Chemical peels

  • Microneedling

  • Laser treatments

These are powerful tools—but they’re meant to be supported by daily at-home skincare. If you’re not caring for your skin between visits, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

It truly takes two to tango: professional treatments plus consistent home care.

3. Consistency Beats Everything

Skincare only works if you actually use it.

Products sitting in a cabinet don’t smooth wrinkles, fade spots, or calm redness. The benefit comes from daily, steady application—morning and night, week after week.

When home care is inconsistent:

  • You’ll need more frequent treatments

  • Results won’t last as long

  • You’ll end up spending more over time

Maintaining your skin at home isn’t optional—it’s how you protect your progress.

The Goal: Your Best Results Possible

We never want patients to feel like they’re chasing results that don’t last. Our goal is for every treatment and product to truly improve your skin for the long term.

That happens when three things come together:

  1. Daily SPF

  2. A simple, effective home routine

  3. Consistent in-office care when needed

If you’re not sure whether your routine is supporting your goals, bring your products to your next appointment—we’re happy to help you fine-tune things.

Your skin is an investment. Let’s make it one that pays off.

Here are tips on how to maximize the money that you are spending on your skincare and your office treatments. So first of all, you've gotta be using SPF. If you are spending money on treatments in the office and you are not using SPF at home, you are not protecting your investment and you are wasting your money.

Number two. I think about in-office treatments the same way I think about going to the dentist, right? You go to the dentist twice a year to get your teeth cleaned, but you go home and you brush your teeth in between, right? Like you're not just like, oh, twice a year they clean my teeth and I'm all good and I have no cavities.

Absolutely not. That is what in-office treatments are like, if you're doing neurotoxic disorders, you're doing chemical peels, you're doing microneedling, and you are not doing skincare at home, you're doing yourself a disservice. Let's be real. We wanna make sure that you're getting the best results possible, and to get the best results possible, it takes two to tango.

Number three, consistency is really key. It only works if you're putting it on. If you buy it and you put it in your cabinet and you're not using it, then you're not getting any benefit from it if you're not maintaining. If this at home, then you're just kind of like wasting your money, right? Because you're gonna need more and more treatments.

You're not maintaining it at home, you're not protecting your investment. Tag a friend in the comments who needs to up their home game.
