Is Your Skincare Routine Doing Too Much? Here's How to Simplify Without Sacrificing Results
Let’s be honest—does your skincare routine feel like a full-time job lately?
Between the 10-step routines, endless masks, serums, and TikTok product hauls, it’s easy to feel like more is more. But here's the truth: you're probably doing too much, and it might be costing you more than just time and money.
Let’s cut through the noise and get back to the basics of great skincare—without the overwhelm.
Step 1: Wash Your Face Every Night (No Exceptions)
Think about everything your skin goes through in a day—pollution, sunscreen, makeup, oil, sweat. All of it builds up, and if you’re not washing your face at night, it’s sitting on your skin while you sleep.
A gentle cleanser is all you need to remove the grime and prep your skin for moisture and active ingredients.
Step 2: Moisturize—Yes, Even If You’re Oily
Let’s clear this up once and for all: the oil your skin produces is not a moisturizer. You still need to hydrate your skin with a proper moisturizer, even if you’re prone to breakouts or shine.
Look for one with:
- Ceramides – to help repair your skin barrier
- Niacinamide – to soothe and strengthen your skin
These ingredients help your skin stay balanced, healthy, and resilient.
Step 3: SPF. Always. Every. Single. Day.
If you’re not wearing sunscreen daily, everything else you’re doing is a waste—no joke.
Whether you're investing in skincare products or in-office cosmetic treatments, none of it matters without sun protection. Sun damage undoes your progress, accelerates aging, and increases your risk of skin cancer.
Look for a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, and wear it every day, rain or shine.
Step 4: Add One Active Ingredient at a Time
When you’re ready to level up your routine, start with these two evidence-based powerhouses:
- Vitamin C (Morning) – An antioxidant that helps fight free radicals and brighten your skin tone.
- Retinol (Evening) – Promotes cell turnover, improves texture, and reduces fine lines.
Start with one and focus on consistency. Once your skin adjusts, you can add the second.
The Bottom Line?
You don’t need a 12-step skincare routine to see results. You just need a smart, simple plan you can actually stick with.
β¨ Cleanse
β¨ Moisturize
β¨ Wear SPF
β¨ Add an active ingredient (when you're ready)

βBe honest. Is your skincare routine starting to feel like a full-time job? Let's talk about what you can do to simplify things. There was this trend going around where we were talking about using more and more products, using masks. Having a 10, 12 step routine, it is unnecessary. You are wasting your time.
You are wasting your money. Let's talk about how to start a good skincare routine. You need to be washing your face at night. You need to do that to get off all the pollutants, all of the sunscreen, um, makeup from the day. Get all of that off of your face. Second of all, you need to be moisturizing. You need to be moisturizing every day.
Even if you're oily, you have to moisturize. Okay? The oil in your skin is not a moisturizer. It is not. You need to walk that off and put on a moisturizer. Look for one that has serum rides in it. And niacinamide, they're gonna help restore your bear. You have to be wearing sunscreen. If you are not wearing sunscreen, and you are watching this video, turn this off.
Go buy sunscreen. SPF is non-negotiable. If you are doing skincare. If you are doing cosmetic procedure driven, you are not wearing SPF. You are wasting your time. You are wasting your money and you are not protecting your investment. Now we talk about actives. The first two I would think about is vitamin C.
That's in the morning. It's an antioxidant, and at night would be a retinol. You can start with one. You do not need to start with both. Okay. Build the habit of using these products regularly. So you're getting the benefits Are you using in your skincare routine? I wanna know.
