If you’ve ever shopped for a Vitamin C serum, you know the options can be overwhelming. With so many types and formulations, how do you know which one is right for you? Dermatologist Dr. Schneider is here to clear things up and share her top pick.

What Makes a Good Vitamin C?

The key to choosing an effective Vitamin C product is knowing which form to look for. Dr. Schneider’s go-to is THD Ascorbate (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate), and here’s why:

  • Stability: Unlike some other forms of Vitamin C, THD Ascorbate is more stable, meaning it doesn’t oxidize as quickly. This makes it more effective over time.

  • Absorption: It’s been modified to penetrate the skin’s lipid bilayer—the layer that ingredients need to pass through to actually work. This means better absorption and more noticeable results.

Dr. Schneider’s Favorite Pick

One of Dr. Schneider’s top recommendations is Revision C+ Complex. Why?

  • It contains the highest percentage of THD Ascorbate (30%), giving you more bang for your buck.

  • The formula also includes additional antioxidants for even more skin protection.

  • It supports your skin’s microbiome, promoting a balanced, healthy complexion.

If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, Vanicream’s Vitamin C also uses THD Ascorbate but at a lower 5% concentration. While it may not pack as powerful a punch, it’s a great option for those who want to start with a gentler dose.

Which One Should You Choose?

Ultimately, it’s about finding what works best for your skin type and budget. Revision C+ Complex is pricier but powerful, while Vanicream’s version is more affordable but less concentrated. Either way, you’ll benefit from the stability and absorption of THD Ascorbate.

Want the transript for this video instead?  Vitamin C is gonna be your best bet. THD ascorbate, the type of vitamin C that is more stable, so it's going to be a better option when you're at the store looking for different vitamin Cs. Not only is it more stable, but it's been modified so that it can go through the lipid bilayer, which is the layer ingredients need to get absorbed through. There are lots of different Vitamin Cs out there. One that I personally like and that I use is revision C plus complex because it has the highest percentage of THD Ascorbate in it. It also has their blend of additional antioxidants. C plus Complex from revision also has ingredients in there to support your microbiome.

There are other brands out there that also have THD Ascorbate VaniCream, for example. Their Vitamin C is A THD Ascorbate. It's just a lower percentage, 5%, whereas the revision C plus is 30%. It's gonna give you more bang for your buck, but it's also more expensive. So you wanna pick one that works for you and your budget.
