What to Expect

Expect mild redness, scabbing, or swelling that typically resolves in days to weeks. Keep the area clean, moisturized (we recommend a thin layer of Vaseline), and protected from sun exposure for optimal healing.

While many lesions clear after one session, some may require additional visits to achieve the best results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of lesions can be removed? We treat a variety of benign growths, including skin tags, sebaceous hyperplasia (oil gland bumps), seborrheic keratoses (“barnacles”), cherry angiomas, and more. Your dermatologist will confirm that a lesion is safe to treat and recommend the best removal method.

1

Is the procedure painful? Most patients experience only minimal discomfort. We use topical or local anesthesia as needed, so you may feel a brief pinch, warmth, or cool sensation during the treatment—but not significant pain.

2

Will I have a scar? Scarring risk is low but is always a possibility. Depending on the method used, you may see temporary redness or a small scab, which typically heals cleanly. We’ll provide aftercare instructions (like keeping the area moisturized and sun-protected) to minimize any lasting mark.

3

How many sessions will I need? Many lesions are cleared in a single visit. Some stubborn or larger growths may require a follow-up session for complete removal. Your dermatologist will let you know what to expect during your consultation.

4

Is cosmetic lesion removal covered by insurance? Removal of benign lesions is generally not covered by insurance. Our office charges $250 for Dr. Schneider and $150 for Sydnee Eck, PA-C to remove benign growths.
